Petite Jasmine had her child taken away from her because she was a sex worker. They handed her child over to the father who was known to be violent. If he had not had custody there would have been no reason for Petite Jasmine to go anywhere near this man. She could have avoided him altogether. But to see her child she needed to be near to him. That's how he could kill her, she was murdered in front of her own child on a custody visit.Bête de Nuithttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03742878105695808899noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4057868054965241866.post-10881614239368221862014-09-10T04:24:10.222-07:002014-09-10T04:24:10.222-07:00Laura Lee refuted this statisitic in a letter to t...Laura Lee refuted this statisitic in a letter to the Belfast Telegraph. "Mr Wells seems determined to avoid discussing the real issues and, instead, talks of these 127 murders of sex workers in the Netherlands. Given his obsession with this 127 statistic, I'd like to clarify: the statistic relates to 118 murders that occurred between 1985 and 2012 being investigated by a police cold case team in the Netherlands. In 25 of the cases, the victims were not sex workers, or it is not known if they were sex workers or not. Most of the sex worker victims were working illegally and outdoors, not indoors. Eighty-six of the murders took place before October 1, 2000 (i.e. before prostitution was legalised in the Netherlands)." If for example,Holland hosted ten times the number of guestimated prostitutes in Sweden then one would also expect much higher victims.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4057868054965241866.post-32618267143262065622014-08-30T15:28:25.258-07:002014-08-30T15:28:25.258-07:00@Korhomme
That's an interesting question indee...@Korhomme
That's an interesting question indeed. So I took the numbers from after 2000 and compared the cases. It does turn out that 80% of these women were killed during their work. So I guess it would be safe to assume it was work related.

What is interesting however, is that by far the most prostitutes that were murdered, were all streetwalkers (80%). These girls walk in often poorly or completely unprotected areas, and is much less safe then for instance a club, escort or window prostitution.

I guess that just proves that keeping these girls safe and protected absolutely does work. Since when they're not protected, the risk goes up high.Adminhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05732130514765417306noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4057868054965241866.post-79589184736077806202014-08-30T14:12:00.357-07:002014-08-30T14:12:00.357-07:00Jim Wells did indeed rant on about this magical 12...Jim Wells did indeed rant on about this magical 127 murders number.

Yet what we don't hear is whether women are murdered because they are prostitutes; or whether they are murdered women who happen to be prostitutes. Petite Jasmine may well have been a sex worker, but that isn't why she was murdered.

But, as always, don't let the facts get in the way of our opinions.Korhommehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02290764661952746389noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4057868054965241866.post-85987368879594026672014-08-30T10:38:49.873-07:002014-08-30T10:38:49.873-07:00I can add a tiny bit more light to this excellent ...I can add a tiny bit more light to this excellent piece:
In 2013 MLA Jim Wells fabricated evidence to the Northern Ireland Assembly about all 127 muders in Netherlands occurring since legalisation
http://www.niassembly.gov.uk/Assembly-Business/Official-Report/Committee-Minutes-of-Evidence/Session-2013-2014/January-2014/Human-Trafficking-and-Exploitation-Further-Provisions-and-Support-for-Victims-Bill-International-Union-of-Sex-Workers/

He has since admitted this was incorrect. However, further on in the transcript the chariman Paul Givan mentions that there has been one murder of a prostitute in Sweden in the last 25 years.

Progress from nil murders in the 9 years before criminalisation to 1 confirmed murder ( and unknown others ) in the 16 years since, is a step in the wrong direction.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
